Hydraulic check valves
The R2254 is an in-line mounted valve that is used to positively lock steering cylinders. This G1/4 valve can also be used when a helm pump is without check valves, to prevent the autopilot pump back driving the helm. Service ports are positively locked until a pilot pressure is applied to unlock the check valve piston.

Most hydraulic helm pumps have internal check valves. If you got a feel (feedback from the rudder) in the helm, you have check valves. If your helm moves when a force is applied to the rudder, then you need the external check valves. Installing check will remove the feel in your helm.
This valve can be used with balanced or unbalanced cylinders by connecting the additional port to an external reservoir.
