Hydraulic autopilot for motorboats and yachts

A reversible pump plumbed into your existing hydraulic steering, a rudder reference unit so the controller knows where the rudder is, and the controller itself. Already have a pump from Cetrek, Raymarine, Simrad or Vetus? The controller can usually drive it directly.

Hydraulic autopilot for motorboats and yachts

Fits

  • Motorboats and motor yachts with hydraulic steering
  • Steel and aluminium boats (compass placement guidance in the manual)
  • Existing pumps from Cetrek, Raymarine, Simrad, Vetus, Hy-Pro and others
  • Boats with 12 or 24 V systems

Installation in four steps

  1. 1
Tee the pump into the steering lines between helm pump and cylinder (lock valves if not present).
  2. 2
Mount the rudder reference unit on the tiller arm and wire it to the controller.
  3. 3
Connect the pump motor and power, calibrate compass and rudder in the app.
  4. 4
Set the rudder limits and gain, then engage from the remote or the app.

Questions from owners

Match the pump displacement to your cylinder volume: the pump should move the rudder from lock to lock in roughly 10 to 15 seconds. Send us your cylinder type and we will size it.

Usually yes. Any brushed 12 or 24 V pump up to 43 A can be driven directly. Pumps with solenoid valves can be driven through the controller outputs as well.

For hydraulic steering, yes. Without rudder feedback the autopilot cannot know how far the rudder has moved, which causes over-steering.

Yes. Mount the controller as far from steel as practical and calibrate the compass in place; an NMEA 2000 compass can be used as heading source instead.

Yes, the controller will work with the Raymarine T2 actuator and the Raymarine rudder feedback unit.

Yes. The Raymarine rudder feedback unit can be used with the system.

Yes. Set the minimum motor speed to 255. For the solenoids, wire the ground wires to ground, then connect the positive wires to Motor A and Motor B.

Most likely yes. If your pump has two thick wires, the autopilot controller can operate it. The wire colors are often red and black or blue and brown.
